Sapphire: An Awesome Budgie

Sapphire

Sapphire

The neutral:

* Purchased from a national pet retail store in June, 2013
* Presumed to have been born in ~April, 2013
* Parents: unknown
* Open-banded with a blue, coded aluminum legband (it was on his leg at the time of purchase)
* His color genotype is: normal cobalt. He has no known recessive or hidden colors or traits.
* His PBFD status: unknown, presumed negative or “clear”

The good:

* Sapphire sired 10 children out of 15 eggs (2 eggs from Cloud’s nest were sired by Adori; one survived, named Sudo), and raised 10 surviving children.
* He has a beautiful song, and loves to sing
* He is an absolutely proven, tender, caring, ‘good parent’ bird. He raised 11 happy, well-adjusted chicks, with two different wives: Sue and Cloud!
* He did not ever pluck, barber, annoy, neglect, or abuse his wife or kids. He didn’t disturb the eggs. He fed his wife inside and outside the nestbox.
* He is a very easygoing flock member. Loves to sing (to his mate, friends, kids, and mirror), and doesn’t fight over perch space much.
* He’s very undemanding: he seems to prefer that the human leave him alone. He’s probably a great fit for someone with a full time job.
* He is gorgeous. His cobalt color is the deepest and richest of all the cobalts here.

The bad:

* He bites, uncommonly now, if he’s frightened or angry. By bites, I mean ‘chew your finger off’/ break the skin / ‘go for broke’ biting, not a little nip. He’s probably not a good fit for a wuss, a novice, or a little kid.
* He is not hand-tame.
* He can be flighty.
* As an older bird, he’s not expected to become a talker, but I’m sure you can train him to at least step up… it might take months of one on one work though.
